It's hard to believe that Eddie Cochran had so
much on the ball at such an early age. I think
Guybo's bass lines in Something Else and C'mon
Everybody were really ahead of their time and
show how much Eddie's music would influence
future rockers. I occasionally run into Charlie
Gracie who use to have Eddie over for dinner
when he was in Philly.

Hello. I'm writing a story and have decided to
create a character who was in utero during his
parents' gig at Woodstock or Altamont. His mom
was a singer/songwriter who believed she was
channeling the music and lyrics of a rock
legend who died earlier in the decade. Doing
some online research, I re-discovered Eddie
Cochran (I knew the words to "Summertime Blues"
before Blue Cheer did!) and decided he's
perfect. Now I'm determined that the
singer/songwriter mom got to see and touch her
hero spirit guide's guitar. But I can't find
any info about where it's been since it was
impounded at the British police station after
the tragic car crash. Can anyone give me any
info or leads?

Many thanks to anyone who can help -- and many
thanks to this terrific website! It's now on my
Favorites list.

Lennon. Murió muy joven, es difícil saber hasta
donde habría llegado, seguramente hasta más
alla de la cima. Otros cantantes de la época
nadie los recuerda. Así que C'mon Everybody.

Adiós

Thanks for the name-check on the Bear Family box
set review.

Your site is superb - and well done for keeping
the flame alive.

If the Net is good for anything, it's the sharing
of knowledge and good info - and your discography
work on Cochran puts most record companies to
shame. And they also mean a great deal to fans
who now the 1000's of hours and effort put in.

PS: I've also reviewed the Gene Vincent Bear

discographies referencing the box set.

Take care and Happy Christmas.

Great website, thanks. I had the pleasure of acting as Eddie in the play

me as Eddie at Liverpool Playhouse followed by a National tour. It was
a great success, unfortunately beaten to the West End by the musical
Buddy. Andrew Schofield was superb as Gene Vincent. I notice there has
been a play in the USA with the same name about the same subject
matter. Do you have any reports about that? Thanks, keep up the good

I remember when Eddie & Gene came to the Gaumont

were a group called the Versatile Five)they had
to borrow our Guitaist as theirs had not turned

them during rehersals, and allowed to sing along
on two numbers
Got there autos whilst they were playing cards
and heard american swearing for the first time,
they call each other c--- suckers and mother f---

all in good humour. I will never forget Gene
Vincent rehearsing Som,ewhere over the Rainbow,
it was Hauntingly Beautiful to listen to.
Of Eddies songs I always sang 20 flight rock in

I met Eddie at Heathrow airport when he first
arrived in England. The promoter was Larry Parnes
and he had brought down Billy Fury and Gene
Vincent to meet him. The airport press took us
all into a room and I watched Eddie have his
photo taken with his Gretsch guitar. We had never
seen a guitar like that before. Eddie, although
he must have been jet lagged was very nice and
smiled at everyone, and even joked around. As a
teenager I watched him on Boy meets Girl TV show,
and then was very sad to hear on the Sunday news
that he had been killed in a Ford Consul on an
English road.Just like Buddy Holly, how much
music did we loose?

I recently got back from a short break in Bath,
England, and on the way home passed by the spot
in Chippenham, Wiltshire, where Eddie suffered
that terrible road crash. It was good to see that
people still visit the site to pay their respects
after all these years.
It was odd for me,though, because just a few days
before that,I'd had a book published (Somewhere
In The Distance) that has an extensive chapter
relating to Eddie and his music.
Although not entirely autobiographical, one of
the book's main characters recalls vividly the
time and place when he first heard about Eddie's
death and the moving effect it had on him as a
young teenager.
Several of Eddie's songs, including Hallelujah I
Love Her So, Don't Ever Let Me Go and Dark Lonely
Street, also act as a soundtrack to the
character's recollection of his first infatuation
with a girl - a love eagerly found but sadly lost.
And while discussing Eddie's death, the character
says, he's never met Eddie or even seen him live,
but his death was like an older brother or close
friend had vanished from his world and left him
heartbroken.
I'm sure a lot of fans felt the same way - and
probably still do.
A lot of water has passed under the bridge since
that fateful day in April 1960, but nearly fifty
years on the magic survives. His influence and
rock 'n' roll legacy is timeless, but there's
still no cure for the summertime blues!

I wanted to thank you for your webpage. You
know, I'm 41 years old. I liked the Sex
Pistols in highschool and just loved Joe
Strummer and the Clash in college and to this
day and now my young children love the Clash.
My 14 year old son who's an amazing guitar
player now loves Eddie Cochran...he likes the
innocent stuff, and that is the mark of an
amazing performer...if you can influence a kid
who likes Alice in Chains and be from the
50's...then you are way ahead of your time =
Eddie Cochran. My son does like the gamult of
music(even Russian Folk guitar)...but I was
proud and surprised that he actually listened
to me, my referral of Eddie. I liked Eddie's
songs when I heard them on the radio (rarely)
or heard other artists performing them, but I
didn't check out Eddie until this summer when I
found a double LP for 3 bucks at the record
store. Wow, I was so blown away...he's all I
have listened to for about 5 months now. What
an amazing mature musician and humble, and just
a regular, nice young man...but man, what an
incredible voice and excellent player. I've
been practicing some of his songs on
guitar...and well, i'm kicking myself for not
finding him sooner...as all the referrals were
there for me...the clash, the beatles, etc...
I'm really blown away by the live performance
in England for a TV show. He opens with
Hallelujah. I mean, I am hooked--hard...I
hear shades of J.L Hooker, Dean Martin, Sinatra
(I don't wanna say Elvis because, it may be
that Elvis was influence by Cochran?)

I've got what appears to be everything he
recorded...at least what I see box set wise,
but man o man I wish I had more! I wish I new
more about that TV show in England...it's
pretty hard to find info on it. I would love
to see it visually, but can't find
anything...just the american TV party stuff,
which is cool, but I really wanna see the
English TV peformance. Anyways...I just love
Eddie Cochran...what a disappointment that the
American Culture did not celebrate him
more...it's so obvious how completely
influencial he is on rock and roll...and just
so multi-talented. Thank you sooooooo much
for your website...thank you sooooooooooo
much!!!! I wish you all the best, Cordially,
Anthony

with a great booklet on Eddie - full of pictures

mixture of live and recorded material. The true
test of an artist is their ability to
play 'live ' - Eddie was awesome live or in the
studio.Check out Live Fast,Love Hard, Die Young -

Let's Coast Awhile, Jelly Bean and Guybo. The
live version of Sittin' in the Balcony -

is a demo of You're My Only Girl by Jerry Dane

Lovely box, with a very high price, so I expected
the best quiality too.. because obviously not
even cent of this goes to the great Eddie,
tragically. He's not here in the world anymore
since 1960 The songs have been too heavily
remastered. Well, I know you won't hear this at
all. The normal fan would say as usual GREAT,
GREAT...I LOVE THIS The too strong compression
used for this release destroyes the original
sound feeling of the old 50's masters. I am
saying that old vinyl would sound more authentic
than this I have noticed this problem since
years, always more and more "help from sound
engineers" Eddie Cochran doesn't need that help.
Not that much as you think. No, CD is not the
problem alone. You Are our Problem Gentlemen. I
still loved the old AAD recordings from the old
days, when the original sound was still
preserved, by changing from LP to CD. Why don't
You ask Us, rock'n'roll fans, what kind of sound
we'd like to hear?. We, the fans, should take
the control now, saying you: we don't like this
anymore. I'm the first one, Ok, I'm one of them
and I have to say thanks, no I don't want this
kind of sound anymore. This typical mp3
aggressive sound, clean Mp3 file sound. Maybe
MP3 Sound belongs to our time, but this is too
much metallic sound by Equalizing or/and
limiting used by remastering akka COMPRESSION
used to take away as many noise as possible from
the original tapes. For future releases of EC or
any other original recording from the past: You
can't take away that noise without to lose a lot
of the original recording too. I'm not expecting
to hear something new at all, you know?
something to say "it could have been recorded
today", because "today" means much more than
fewer noise or fewer hiss level. Those magnetic
tapes had already high hiss level. You can't
take it away! It's not magic what you are doing,
you destroy the music too!
20 bits or even 24 bits, that's not the problem,
the problem is and remain your remastering!.
Even at 16 bit, this could sound much better. I
know it's a great effort to make this release but
the sound must be great too. and it's not The
price of this box not the cheapest ever.
I Don't like anymore this cheap sound, I can live
with hiss, but I miss Eddie's LP sound here.
That ambient sound from a 50's recording, I miss
it, this is dead. Please not more plastic. This
is my opinion, of course. I would suggest you
could have included an extra cd, with just mp3
files, but with the original sound, just showing
us how the originals sounded before. I'm very
disappointed about what I hear.

I don't like either just the same bad quality
picture used by the covers. There are hundreds of
better pictures to use, please not always the
same one...

If someone doesn't have the old 4 CD box from
Rock Star yet, I wouldn't buy this before. If you
have it, of course buy this one because it's
Eddie Cochran, lots of new versions included, but
please stop with this kind of sound. I love RnR
sound, not hardcore techi-sound. This Bear box
costs too much to sound so poorly. Don't say now
it sounds modern It sounds cheap and Eddie
Cochran deserves somethin' else.

My first exposure to Eddie's music likely came
via The Who's cover of Summertime Blues when I
was something like 11 years old. Still not
aware of who wrote it I was impressed by it's
energy, especially the inserted comments by
the "boss" and "politician" which appear
several times in the song. Simply put, it had
a raw warmth and energy that was fun. Fast
forward a few years and now I'm in Jr. High
School and once more I find a song I really
like on an album I purchase. This time it's
the song C'mon Everybody off the Humble Pie's
Smokin' album. I could tell the song was
special and it held up better over time than
any other song on that LP. I guess you could
say I was an Eddie Cochran fan who did not know
he was an Eddie Cochran fan.

Fast forward over many years to 2008. Now I'm
well into middle-age and I've heard several of
Eddie's songs performed by him over the years
and read an ocassional blurb regarding his
influencing others yet I am still not a
conscious fan. Well, that has changed and I
want to thank XM/Sirius radio. In the last
three months of 2008 I began to listen to XM
station 59 which is one those added since the
merger. It's "Little Steven's Underground
Garage" station and it is truly a the coolest
radio station I've heard since I was in my
teens. This station celebrates great music
from the fifties to the present and it has
exposed me to more Eddie Cochran than I've ever
heard in my life. All I can say is what a
talent! After seeing the DVD of Eddies
appearance on the local Los Angeles, California
1950's show "Town Hall Party" I'm more
convinced than ever of his remarkable singing,
guitar playing, and songwriting skills as well
as believing he must have been one of the most
charismatic nice guys ever in rock music.

It is nice to discover this wonderful artist's
music and I'm glad that thanks to XM/Sirius
it's likely many other folks will to.
Eddie...You were a really amazing artist.

This next July I´ll get married and a classical
music band is gonna play during the ceremony.
I have asked this band to prepair an
instrumental cover of Eddie´s "I remember".
They have been browsing the internet trying to
find this song score, but they haven´t found
it, so they have told it´s impossible for them
to play it.
As you undestand, this is a great
disappointment for us. So we´ll be very

score (or tablature).
Thanks a lot for your cooperation.

"If mere words can console us for the loss of
our beloved Eddie then our love for him was a

"Cherished Memories"

To Eddie on the 48th anniversary of his tragic
death this day (April 17th) 1960.

Heavenly music filled the air
that very tragic day.
Something was missing tho:
I heard the creator say,
"We need a master guitarist and singer,
I know of but one alone
his name is Eddie Cochran,
i think i'll call him home."

"I know the folks on earth won't mind,
for they will understand,
that the lord loves perfection,
now we'll have a perfect band."

So as we go through life; now we know
that perfection is our goal.
And we strive for this.
So when we are called,
we'll feel free to go.

"I was born a Tiger,
I'll always have my way.
Nobodys gonna change me,
This or any other day!"

We love you Eddie xxxx

I really like rockabilly and Eddie Cochrans
music makes me feel good. Especially driving my
car listening to him. Some times I wonder why
he had to die, but he gave us so many cool
songs, and if there ever will be another Eddie
cochran, but I´ve realized there´s no need for
that because his music will be kept, played and
rememberd forever, and his music has inspired
every person that goes for rockabilly
especially song writers in that genry. Most
important is to get every song he recorded and
enjoy them. Thats what he wanted of course

I was only 4 years old when Eddie Cochran left
us (I'm 52 now), but I discovered his music in
the mid 70s and never looked back. "Skinny Jim"
and "Somethin' Else" are 2 of the greatest rock
and roll songs ever recorded, not to mention his
many other tunes. He is my favorite rocker of
that era and I'm so glad to see all of the good
people who posted on this site haven't forgotten
him as well. I think if he was still around he
would've fit into the 60s, 70s and beyond with
no trouble at all. I could see him writing songs
with Lennon & McCartney, jamming with Jimi
Hendrix, Duane Allman, Jeff Beck and showing
that Clapton fella a thing or two on the guitar!
I'm friends with guitar genius and Bluesman
Johnny Winter and he told me that he loved Eddie
Cochran when he was growing up in Texas and
still loves his music. I am especially facinated
by the good people here who actually saw Eddie
perform live! Does anyone know whatever happened
to the idiot that was driving the car that
killed Eddie? I hope he thinks about what he did
every day, because from the accounts I've read
the accident was the driver's fault. Anyway, I
just wanted to say hi and pay my respects to the
great Eddie Cochran whose music will live
FOREVER!!! That car's fine lookin', man, it's
somethin' else! Bom bom bom bomp bomp bomp bomp

What a prodigous talent! A versatile artist
whose vocal expression was characterised by a
passionate honesty in his recordings. An
excellent songwriter as well. His "Somethin'

Thank you for a very interesting page, the
comments from the original fans are a pleasure. I
am 40 years old and first remember hearing Eddie
from the 15 year memorial album in 1975....how
time flys...On October the 13th 2007 I visited
the crash site in Chippenham and felt the
atmosphere of great loss, recaling an extract
from an interview I read somewhere from Gene
Vincent remembering carrying Eddie in a confused
unreal wiltshire night..crying for help......but
it was not to be,Eddie died. This sounds strange
I know, but when you have listened to his music
for most of your life you tend to get close to
the spirit of the person without ever meeting
them. Anyway Eddie is gone but his music lives on
and on.....

I was still at school (Woodfield
County,Cranford,Middlx.England) and I would work
weekend at a restaurant on the north side of
Heathrow Airport on the weekends. One Saturday
morning the young girls that worked there came
rushing in saying there was a rock star coming in
on Pan Am flight 100 from America. So we all went
to see what was going on. An English star(Billy
Fury) was there Gene Vincent and a promoter
called Larry Parnes. We all watch Eddie come
through customs, and then as we worked there we
went with them into a room where they were going
to take photographs. It was then that he got out
his Gretsch guitar and played a few licks. I then
watched him every time he was on the TV, and
then, on a Sunday evening got the news that he
had been travelling in a Ford Counsel back to
London and had been in a accident in Watford
where he died. It was a very sad day, because to
me, even at an early age, he made a great
impression. He was very friendly, and generous
with his time. Besides being a great song writer
and musician.

I was 17, an Air Force brat when I first

I recollect my feelings about this great song
hit because Eddie reminded me of a
singing "James Dean." In my opinion, a this
was a story about teen-age life, moreso on
the "Left Coast." It's tragic that Eddie passed
way too early, and during this summer, even at
age 66, "there ain't no cure for the summertime
blues..." Wow, there sure isn't~

cool. He was playing a Chet Atkins Gretsch and
I was so impressed with his style and music

I just happened upon this site by accident while
exploring the Gretsch site. I was unaware that
Eddie was born in Albert Lea, which is south of
Mankato. I graduated from Mankato H.S. in 1963
and went on to play with various R&B groups,
culminating my music career in 1970, when I was
guitarist for Showtime Parts I & II, a
Minneapolis group. Had the opportunity to share
the stage with some Motown and Stax Recording
(Memphis) R&B/Soul icons. My connection to
Gretsch- I played a 1967 issue Gretsch Chet
Atkins Tennessean I never should have parted
with. Eddie&039;s site is very well done!

I was fortunate enough to have seen Eddie
Cochran in what was to be his final tv show
while he was touring the UK in April 1960. It
was a live performance and i don&039;t think there
are any copies (they didn&039;t make copies back in
those days). I&039;ll never forget him
playing &039;Hallelujah, I love her so&039; - his
guitar work was stunning and played at a
dazzling speed. He wore leather trousers and
just came across a supremely confident. I was
15 years old and became hooked on his singing
voice, the songs he wrote, and his guitar
playing. He was an inspiration. I was at his
60th birthday celebration in Chippenham back in
1998 and met Sharon Sheeley and the remaining
members of the Crickets at the ceremony held
where the fatal car crash happened. What a
talent.

rock music was tremendous, without him there
wouldn't have been many of my fav rock bands, and
his songs, although quite raw in comparison with
later covers, are so great! I got to know about
Eddie due to cover-versions of his songs
performed by other musicians, but when I heard
originals I loved them so much! They sound so
unique, so genuine! I love their spirit and I
always will! Eddie was such a cool guy, a lot of
fun, so bad he died, but we'll always remember
him as a young and great lad! Eddie C - forever!

autographs on the back. This came about at a
later concert by Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps
at the same venue. Gene asked some of the
members of the audience to stay behind for
conversation due to, as he put it, "The hotel

writeing SUMMER TIME BLUES, and being in a

had told him and then eat the peice of paper.

As I sit here with a filmed performance of
"Summertime Blues" at 'Hadleys Town Hall
Party' on repeat, I am amazed at how talented
this young guy was. It's 1959 and he's
effortlessly reproducing his landmark
recording note-perfect in a live environment.
His charismatic delivery is only matched by
the quality of the performance. I find it bizarre
that 46 years after his death, Eddie Cochran's
talent has me mesmerized, but on reflection,
why should I be surprised, when we should
consider the following about Eddie's
contribution to popular music:
1 - When Eddie toured England, he had 3
mesmerized fans in the audience at one of
his shows - John, Paul and George. George
played a Gretsch. Paul originally met and
endeared himself to John by playing him "20
Flight Rock" a few years earlier. A few years
later, these Eddie Cochran fans became the
greatest musical act of the 20th Century.
2 - Eddie introduced the 'Power Chord" to the
world. It's that simple - on "Summertime
Blues" the crashing sound of fully rounded
electric guitar chords appears. This is not
intricate Rockabilly runs from Scotty Moore or
electric double-note blues/rock from Chuck
Berry, this is crashing full chords - years later
Pete Townsend would make it the staple of
The Who's sound, more electrified, but in
direct homage to Eddie Cochran. To this day,
Power Chords are the staple of rock music.
3 - By the age of 21, Eddie gave us
"Summertime Blues". "C'Mon Everybody",
"Something Else", and "Nervous Breakdown".
In comparison, when John Lennon was the
same age, he hadn't written a song of any
worth.
So what might have Eddie done had he not
died in that accident? Let's not waste time
wondering, we know what he did before the
accident, and we have that forever.

In appreciation of a much loved talent,

Kindest regards,
Terry Leigh.

Thanks for this site and the chance to remember a
great musician underrated today. A genius that
came only once: Eddie Cochran was just like the
light in the darkness. God thought that his
genius and talent were to good for us... but
until the end of the times will allways be
somebody here in the poor world that he left so
early, to Remember what he did in his too short
21 years of life... And so long I`m alive I will
also remember his incredible Genius, everyday. I
promise it. That is the only way that Eddie and
his music live with us forever.

Hi folks,Iam only 15 years old and unlike other

be like, Eddie Cochran is my idol I think
everything he wrote, sung and performed was
amazing. I was a big Buddy Holly fan until
about 2 years ago and then from him i went
crazy on Cochran (I got wiser!). My favourite
songs are 'Dont you bye bye baby me'
and 'Cherished memories'. Like I say i am only
15 and was born in 1990, I bet I am one of the
youngest Cochran fans, and i am so proud to say

I am a classical musician but I love Eddie
Cochran with all my heart. I was not born till
1964. Of course I have heard -somewhere- his big
hits "Come on everybody" or "Three steps to
heaven" but I didnt know who played it. May be
Elvis... but one day I saw Eddie Cochran on a
video from "Go Johnny go", it was a big Schock
for me!. Since that day Eddie is part of my
life. Only one video and to buy one record and
it was clear for me: this young man was the
Genius of the Century!. But the biggest Schock
was to know too how all that ended, that dark
night in 1960...
The information here is just GREAT, love it: and
I am very glad to read from the man who knew the
late great Eddie personally (Congratulations!),
who tell us that Eddie liked to play Bach too.
That touchs my heart really very deep!. Just
another thing that is new for me and says a lot
how for an open musician Eddie was. Even in
that thing was Eddie before his time. Today a
lot of rock musicians study music theory in a
Conservatory like Julliard etc, but not in the
fifties.
In my opinion als musician: Eddie Cochran was so
talented and gifted like Schubert or Chopin when
both of them where about 20 years -I compare
only Talents and not Styles of course- and his
loss was a completely Tragedy both for the man
and the music, the whole Music not only Rock. The
really greek tragedy of our time. Because of
this, sometimes I think about him "With tears
in my eyes" too, just like Eddie did when he
sings "Three Stars". He is so alive in his
records that I can not believe the True. Its not
a shame, he was a Genius. I got nearly sick for
a week -not a very long time ago- the day I knew
how sadly and tragically Eddies life ended...
and so young, but I am sure he will be
understand in the future as the biggest Genius of
the XX Century. He is very undertreated but same
thing happened to great musicians of the
history that died very young. People like Franz
Schubert were for a century really undertreated.
(was 31 als he died), and even Mozart was
underreated. Just read a book from the 19.
Century and you see it very clear. People think
like this first: "when you die young you are not
good enough". But this changes with the time.
Today people have not many chances to know or to
hear about Eddie Cochran. That is sadly true. But
Come on everybody!: the time says the last words,
just wait for it. Eddies star still shines since
nearly 46 years. And he did it all and in only 21
years!
God bless Eddie, forever!

I am pleasantly surprised to find that there are still Eddie Cochran
fans around the world. The first song I heard was 'Weekend' in the
early 60s on Radio Luxembourg. I then found a battered copy of a
record called 'C'mon Everybody in a market. I took it home and
put it on the record-player. Wow! I just could not believe what I
was hearing for the first time! His death was so strange.

To compare eddie in a ny way to elton John, is

rocker a great guitarist and a great musician,
but the two are worlds apart in musical tastes
To run down a top pro. like elton for a cheap
and silly comparison is just plain daft.

Hallo Antoon and readers.

I was just passing through the Web and Googled
here. Congratulations on a tremendous site.
It's very well laid out, easy to navigate and
has items of interest on every page. The quotes
and links are so comprehensive that many of
them were unknown to me.

I was fortunate to work with Eddie back in
1959/60 after spending a year or more with
Billy Fury and the rest of the Parnes stable of
singers. I was a Tour Manager, although only
seventeen at the time, for one of the best
touring shows ever assembled in UK. As time
went on the guest singers, mainly from the USA,
became more interesting, until the charismatic
duo of Cochran and Vincent arrived to wow the
fans and show members alike.

Eddie brought with him the hitherto almost
unknown (in UK) work of Ray Charles, and not
only used Hallelujah in every set, but
invariably opened his show with What'd I Say.
However, he always modestly understated his own
songwriting abilities, preferring to laud the
work of others.

He was a superlative guitarist, and was the
first rocker I ever saw playing Bach! We had
three brilliant guitarists on our tour: Joe
Brown, still entertaining us all today; (Big)
Jim Sullivan of Marty Wilde's Wildcats, which
backed Eddie throughout his time on the road
here; and Colin Green of the Beat Boys (soon
becoming the Blue Flames for Billy Fury, and
when he went solo, for their pianist Georgie
Fame.) All of them were in awe of Cockroach, as
he was fondly known on the show, and his
influence on them and an immediate generation
of budding British guitar players was every bit
as important as the more popular work of Hank
Marvin during that period. It is a crying shame
that there is so little of his rock guitar work
available on recorded media, his instrumental
ability and invention was staggering and
deserved a more fitting tribute than his
recorded work available generally today.

The best that I have seen is that from the Jack
Good 'Boy meets Girls' show featuring Joe
Brown, and some of the old 1958 footage from LA
TV shows.

When you add the fact that Eddie was one of the
nicest guys in the business, his passing was
all the more sad to those of us who knew him
well, as well as to you fans who keep his
memory so hallowed 45+ years on.

It is very difficult to believe that Eddie had
actually had his day of glory in his home
country, along with every one of his formative
peers (Berry, Vincent, Domino, Holly, Lewis,
Richard, etc.,) except Presley. Few of them
could find lasting work, but by Eddie & Gene's
touring of UK, so many rockers were totally
inspired by the mini-tours of these great early
rock stars, that The Beatles and other bands of
the mid-60s were able to base their styles on
these kings, and to export their reinventions
back to the USA and the rest of the world as
the British Invasion.

Music really matters. Keep the dream alive.

Mike

Although I was born two years after Eddie
Cochran's tragic car crash, his thrilling songs
were simply the first alternative I heard to the
ubiquitous Beatles. Looking at his album covers,
I remember thinking to myself, "Here's an
American hellraising rocker who can be raunchy,
but he's got a melancholic side to him as well".
I wondered why he looked so young on every
picture until I found out that the good die
young ... with his innovative guitar technique
and recording ideas, (not to mention his
electrifying stage persona) Eddie could have
been bigger than Elvis, but his early death
spared him the embarrassment of having to
perform in front of Las Vegas millionaires. Why
are there so few of his songs out there on the
Internet? After all, they're all fun to play,
especially "Twenty Flight Rock" (witty lyrics to
three chords) and "Summertime Blues" (idem).
Cheers everybody, and keep on rockin' as the
late, great Eddie Cochran would have wished us
to do!

I have a copy of the 1953 Bell Gardens Junior
High School yearbook which includes Eddie as an
8th grader. There are two pictures of him in it.
One is the class portrait, the other is of him
playing the sax. I am willing to sell it to the
highest bidder. I want at least $350 for it.
Contact me at the above em. Only serious party

Most great rock/pop songs are wrapped around
tight riffs (You Can't Sit Down, You Really Got
Me, Satisfaction etc, etc), but there was Eddie
doing it in 1958 ! Where did that come from
when he had nothing but R'n'R to build on ?
Genius must be the word....

The first CD I ever picked up was by Eddie
Cochran. I was born in 1974 and though I'm not
from that era I like his music because it has the
best rhythm and sounds very young and fresh too.
Excellent page. Greetings to all.

A really great, great website !

Eddie is a part of my life, I miss him so much.
A wonderful singer with a lot of feeling in his
voice, I liked to listen to "Summertime Blues"
and especially to "C'mon everybody", but he made
quite a lot of other wonderful songs, including
the "Boll weeval song". EDDIE WAS GREAT ! ! !

All the best to you

Terrific site, especially the old archive stuff
that I have never seen before. Eddie's rock
records and guitar work were tremendous but he
also recorded some other (slightly oddball)
slower songs that were great and I will always
remember (e.g. "Don't Ever let Me Go". I hope
the excellent BBC documentary onm Eddie a few
years ago was shown in other countries.

Hi, Rob Dee here from Rob Dee and the Furysound,
we perform a tribute to the late great Billy
Fury and also a Rock N Roll set including a lot
of Eddie's songs, Did anyone know that Eddie and
Billy were close friends and Eddie died on
Billy's 20th Birthday, Billy was devastated and
wore a black armband all day. I recently visited
the place where it sadly happened in Chippenham,
I pulled up along side the momument and played a
cd of Eddie's, I was shocked to see people
walking by and showing no respect at all to the
Legend "Eddie Cochran" What a waste of such a
talent..

Thank you for having a classy site for Eddie.
I remember getting one of Eddie's 'Best of' CDs
when I was about 10. I listened to it on and off
for years but it wasn't until I was about 14 when
I realized that Eddie was brilliant. 'Somethin
Else' always stuck out in my mind as such a
superior song to most others of the 1950s. I
would tell my friends about Eddie Cochran for
years after. I was in and out of Folk bands at
the end of my teens and almost throughout the
entirity of my 20s. When I turned 28 I decided
to form a Rockabilly band in dedication to Eddie
Cochran and Johnny Cash. I truly wish I could've
seen Eddie perform live or at least on television.
Thanks again.
